General Disk hardware and z/OS

IBM

IBM provides a wide range of disk storage products along with software solutions for copy services. The DS8000 line covers the high-end system requirements, and the DS6000 the smaller configurations. The subsystems support z/OS as well as Open Systems and iSeries.

IBM has a wide range of business continuity solutions including synchronous and asynchronous Disk Subsystem based copy services and (z/OS) host based XRC. IBM also provide the high-end GDPS system to automate availability management in z/OS environments.

IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center is IBM's flagship storage resource management suite.

EMC

EMC provides a wide range of disk storage products along with software solutions for copy services. The Symmetrix product line covers the high-end system requirements. The DMX series, now in its third generation, covers all z/OS as well as Open Systems and iSeries. EMC uses the Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) software for all its copy services solutions. SRDF supports both synchronous as well as asynchronous copy schemes.

HP

HP provides a wide range of disk storage products along with software solutions for copy services. HP provides both the high-end XP12000 and XP24000 systems build by Hitachi, as well as the EVA and MSA Disk Arrays manufactured by HP. The XP12000 and XP24000 support z/OS as well as Open Systems. HP uses the Continuous Access software for its copy services solutions. Continuous Access supports both synchronous as well as multiple asynchronous copy schemes.

HDS

HDS provides a wide range of disk storage products along with software solutions for copy services. The TagmaStore USP product line covers the high-end system requirements. The older Lighting subsystems are also still widely used. TagmaStore and Lightning support z/OS as well as Open Systems. HDS uses the TrueCopy and Universal Replicatror software for all its copy services solutions. TrueCopy supports both synchronous as well as multiple asynchronous copy schemes, including a software version of XRC.

STK (Oracle Sun Storage)

StorageTek, now part of Oracle, offers high-end storage subsystems which use STK's proprietary storage archictecture based on a compressed file system, allowing it to offer Snapshot copies.

Hitachi

Hitachi manufactures drives that are used by many vendors in there Disk Subsystems. Detailed specifications from these drives can be found on the Hitachi Global Storage Technologies web site. A few links below as examples
