Supported Data Sources

Data Source  Description
zSeries

For zSeries, data is imported automatically with input files created by IntelliMagic Vision.  zSeries automated input supports device level data as well as aggregated data if detail information is not required.

Distributed Systems

IntelliMagic Direction supports automated input for AIX, LINUX, SUN and HP/UX based on the iostat performance data.   Windows performance data can be obtained from the Windows perfmon or sysmon utility.

With IntelliMagic Direction you can select the best disk technology for your database or application I/O workload.

iSeries

For iSeries workloads IntelliMagic Direction shows workload and performance characteristics for each ASP individually.  This also allows you predict what would happen if you moved certain ASPs to another disk type, or even to a different Disk Storage System (DSS), while retaining the others at their current disks.

iSeries models are automatically created from text files that are produced by the iSeries Performance Tools.

IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center

IntelliMagic Direction supports automated input for TPC performance data allowing users to quickly and easily create models based on production workloads. IntelliMagic Direction currently supports automated import of the following TPC reports:

  • Storage Subsystem Performance reports for Disk Subsystems
  • Storage Subsystem reports for SAN Volume Controllers
  • Volume Performance reports for Disk Subsystems
  • Volume to Backend Volume Assignment reports
IntelliMagic Vision

With IntelliMagic Vision you can create input files for your storage configuration and automatically load them into IntelliMagic Direction.  This provides a means of loading SMI-S, RMF, TPC or any number of input types supported by IntelliMagic Vision.
