Tiering Plan
Create a Tiering Implementation Plan
Tiering - using a combination of faster disks and slower disks - can be significantly less expensive then using a single-tier configuration and still provide great performance. However, a tiered configuration is more difficult to design than a single-tier configuration. The difficulty is to split the workload into the part that needs to go to faster disks and the part that will perform well on slower disks. Performing this workload split manually is very tedious and error-prone, especially as you need to consider all the different time periods like batch and online.
IntelliMagic Balance automates this task and creates the best possible workload split for the different target disks. It will also generate charts that show how well the target combination of disk types fits the workload performance requirements. It can be easily rerun with various mixtures of disk technologies to evaluate several tiering scenarios.
