IntelliMagic Balance can optimize existing configurations with a ‘best moves' optimization method. This comprehensive analysis by the software results in a list of recommended logical volume moves that will usually make a dramatic impact on the performance capacity of your storage system.
This extends the life of storage systems that are not currently stressed, and it will remove or reduce hot spots on storage systems, enabling you to safely defer hardware upgrades.
Storage systems provide the best performance when the workload is well balanced across the back-end array groups. But without specialized SPM software it is not possible to see how well balanced workloads are. IntelliMagic Balance tackles this complex optimization task by looking at the back-end requirements of every volume during every interval of time over a long period (for example one week).
It then produces a simple list of the best logical volume moves to create the optimal balance that you can use with your data move tool of choice. This way you can eliminate the most severe hotspots in your disk system first, such that you can improve throughput quickly. This best moves process can be done periodically (e.g., once per month).
IntelliMagic Balance heatmap charts show the current bottlenecks and what the improvement will be after the recommended volume moves. This helps you to quickly identify current hotspots and assess the impact the ‘best moves' have on resolving the hotspots.
