IntelliMagic announces RMF Magic Version 5: Storage Performance analysis with improved database support and extended reporting possibilities

Today, IntelliMagic announces the availability of RMF Magic Version 5. RMF Magic is a disk performance analysis product that processes CMF or RMF data to generate new metrics that help optimize disk subsystem performance.

Data centers use RMF Magic to receive early warnings of performance degradation, to solve performance issues and to achieve better throughput by balancing the I/O workload over the available resources. A daily dashboard visually presents the results of an automated, in-depth analysis of the disk subsystem environment, pinpointing which tuning actions can help extend the lifetime of existing storage subsystems.

New in RMF Magic Version 5 is the ability to use DB2 as a database repository. The DB2 database can be on z/OS (Universal Database) or on Windows (DB2 Express). “Our new support for DB2 allows us to meet the scalability requirements from our largest customers.”, says Gilbert Houtekamer, managing director of IntelliMagic. ”The DB2 support means that even the largest data centers can keep detailed information from their disk subsystems for multiple weeks, allowing analysts to recognize recurring patterns in performance issues in their full context.“

New functions in RMF Magic Version 5 include views from the application perspective, showing which jobs and storage groups generate most of the I/O load and which applications are impacted by storage delays. Furthermore, Version 5 introduces back-end access density reporting to help select the best storage devices for each application: from high performance to low cost drives. With the introduction of Solid State Drives identifying the best storage technology for each workload will become even more important.
